(CBS) — As the Veterans’ Administration launches a nationwide audit of its health facilities, Congressman Michael Quigley (D-Ill.) says there seem to be some deep rooted problems at the agency, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Congressman Mike Quigley says he and others have not been fully briefed about reports some veterans died waiting for healthcare appointments in Phoenix, Arizona but he says the VA seems to be a department that has consistently had problems.
“It is the only thing that explains how this process can recur over and over again, that there needs to be a change in the culture,” said Quigley. “That type of change within an entrenched institution is the most difficult to implement, but it has to happen this time.”
Still, Quigley says he agrees with colleague Tammy Duckworth that Veterans’ Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki should stay on the job and fix the mess.
