White Sox Designate Keppinger For Assignment
(CBS) The White Sox have designated infielder Jeff Keppinger for assisgnment, to Double-A Birmingham, after he has been brought off the 15-day disabled list.
Keppinger hasn't played in a big league game this season, as he was hobbled from recovering from right shoulder surgery. At 34, he didn't appear to fit in the team's long-term plans, and the promotion of second baseman prospect Micah Johnson to Triple-A Charlotte yesterday only brought Chicago's future closer to the present.
Keppinger hit .253 with four homers and 40 RBIs in 117 games for the White Sox last season.
