4-Year-Old Merrillville Boy Dead After Shooting Self With Parents’ Gun

(CBS) — A four-year-old boy is dead after accidentally shooting himself Saturday morning in Merrillville, Indiana.

According to Merrillville Police, the boy took the gun from his parents’ bedroom and took it back to his room at about 8 a.m. The gun went off and fired a single shot, wounding the boy.

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boy’s parents were home during the incident, along with two siblings.

The Lake County Ind. coroner identified the boy as Cash Irby Jr.

Merrillville Police are investigating the incident.
