DCFS Investigating Mother In Death Of 3-Year-Old Girl
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Criminal charges could come later today in the death of a 3-year-old Northwest Side girl.
The body of 3-year-old Ashley Mendoza was found Sunday night in her Northwest Side home.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of abuse against the girl's mother.
The medical examiner says Ashley died from multiple injuries from child abuse and that her death was a homicide.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says charges are expected against a family member and that those charges could come today.
DCFS says it's had no previous contact with the family and that no other children are in the home.
