Deep Dish Or Thin Crust? Authoritative Chicago Website Will Soon Hit Your Eye

Pizza-Worship Website Launches

(CBS) -- Deep dish, thin crust, sausage, pepperoni or veggie -- everyone loves Chicago-style pizza.

But how much do you know about it? And where are the best places to get it? A new website that launches next week is devoted to all things Chicago pizza.

"It's called Encyclopizzeria. We want it to be an encyclopedia of pizza. So the name seemed to be perfect and the domain was available and we just went ahead and got it," says founder Stephen Beemsterboer, who developed the site with Avondale resident Erin Nederbo.

Beemsterboer lives in New York now but grew up in Chicago and he created the website to share his love for his hometown staple and to tout his favorite: thin crust.

"I really, originally, truly wanted to create a website to dispel that misconception and give our thin crust pizza the credit it deserves to be on par with the deep dish," he says.

Beemsterboer says it's not just the pizza itself, it's the stories behind the pizza.

"There are so many interesting people. There are pizza family rivalries, there's this old guy up in Morton Grove who makes pizza by himself and his wife," he says.

The site will be more than just reviews. It will have lists of top ten best kinds of pizza and an interactive map about locations and how to get there via public transportation.

Beemsterboer hopes to eventually expand the world of pizza beyond Chicago and talk about good styles and stories from across the country.

Encyclopizzeria.com launches on Tuesday. It already has launched its Facebook and Twitter pages.
