(CBS) — In far north suburban Zion, a busy roadway became the scene of a police involved shooting.

The incident happened at about 3:51 p.m. in the area of 26th Street and Lewis Avenue. Police wounded the suspect who remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

A Zion police officer was struck by the suspect’s vehicle and a total of three officers were taken to area hospitals. All have been treated and released.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force has been called to conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
