(CBS) – A 20-year-old man died in far southwest suburban Wilmington overnight, after a canoe capsized on the Kankakee River. Three other people from the boat made it to safety.

The Wilmington Fire Department said, shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, there was an emergency call about a capsized canoe on the Kankakee River, and people screaming that they were drowning.

When fire crews arrived, two of the four people from the canoe had made it to safety on the riverbank, and a third person had made it to an island in the middle of the river and was later brought to shore, but a fourth was missing.

According to the Will County Coroner’s office, divers recovered the body of a 20-year-old man around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

That man’s name has not yet been released.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police were investigating.
