Blackhawks Sign Dennis Rasmussen To 1-Year Deal

By Jay Zawaski-

(CBS) On Tuesday afternoon, the Chicago Blackhawks officially announced the signing of 23-year-old Swedish center Dennis Rasmussen, who inked a one-year deal that carries a $792,500 cap hit.

In 52 games this past season with Växjö of the Swedish League, Rasmussen tallied 16 goals and 24 assists, finishing the season ranked 10th in scoring. He stands 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 205 pounds.

Rasmussen has the combination of size and skill that the Blackhawks lack and covet. He will be given a shot to make the team out of camp, but nothing is guaranteed.

A number of NHL teams, including the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks, were reportedly interested in signing the big Swede.

Here's the scouting report on him from EliteProspects.com:

Rasmussen is a center with good size and wheels, as well as two-way acumen. Has fine stick skills and handles the puck well. Drives the net and battles along the boards. Has a hard wrist shot and a fast release. Useful on the penalty kill and can play wing in a pinch.
