Chicago Leaders Gather To Promote Peace In Troubled Neighborhoods

(CBS) – School's out for Chicago Public Schools students for the summer, and Mayor Emanuel joined church leaders Friday in an effort to keep the streets safe.

They took to the streets calling for an end to violence.

Fr. Michael Pfleger led a Stop the Violence March, through the streets of Gresham, CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

Putting the violence into perspective, the names of 105 young people killed in Chicago since September were read out loud.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says parents should think of each night as a peace march in Chicago.

At the House of Hope in the Pullman neighborhood, those attending the Chicago Gospel Music Awards took a moment to reflect on the senseless crime in Chicago's neighborhoods.

In Chatham, police patrols were joined by Brothers on the Block, an effort to put volunteers on street corners in high-crime areas.
