Second Delay For Metra BNSF Line, After Train Hits Car In Hinsdale

CICERO, Ill. (CBS) -- Trains on Metra's BNSF Railway were halted near west suburban Hinsdale on Monday, after a train hit a car, just a few hours after earlier delays due to debris on the tracks in Cicero.
An inbound train that left the Fairview Avenue station in Downers Grove at 7:13 a.m. struck a car shortly before reaching the West Hinsdale station at 7:22 a.m., according to a Metra spokesperson. It was unclear if there were any injuries.
Inbound trains were halted for nearly 40 minutes as a result of the crash, but were moving again by 8 a.m., with delays of up to 37 minutes. Outbound trains were halted for more than an hour, but were allowed to continue moving by shortly after 8:30 a.m., with delays of 33 to 75 minutes.
The accident in Hinsdale happened a little more than three hours after BNSF Railway trains were briefly halted due to debris on the tracks in west suburban Cicero.
A freight train struck a bridge near 26th and Cicero around 4 a.m., scattering debris on all three tracks. As a result, Metra briefly halted service until the debris could be cleared from one track and trains could move again.
