One Still Missing After Boating Accident Near Coal City

COAL CITY, Ill. (CBS) -- Crews were searching the Illinois River on Monday, a day after a person went missing after a boating accident near southwest suburban Coal City.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young said a married couple, their son, and the son's girlfriend were on a boat near the Dresden Lock and Dam sometime Sunday afternoon, when debris struck the boat's motor.

The father shut off the motor and tried to remove the debris, then tried to restart the motor, but it would not start, Young said. A swift current apparently pulled the boat past the dam, and three people either jumped or fell in the water. The fourth person was able to stay on the boat.

Those people were swept through the flood gates. Rescue crews were able to pull two people out of the water, but could not find the third person as of Monday morning.

The two people who were rescued were not injured, according to Young.

Crews resumed searching the river Monday morning.
