(CBS) — An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with the fatal armed robbery of a South Side college student last January.
William Paschal, 18, of the 7200 block of South Artesian Avenue was charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, according to a release from Chicago Police.
About 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 16, Kevin Baker, 19, was on his way home from class at Harold Washington College, walking in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue, when two people — one armed with a handgun — got out of a dark-colored van and demanded his and his cousin’s cellphones, the Sun-Times previously reported.
After the two handed over their phones, the armed robber opened fire, striking Baker in the head. Baker, of the 6200 block of South Maplewood Avenue, died two days later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Paschal is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
