(CBS) — Lt. Governor Sheila Simon is the latest to join the campaign-based call for Republican Bruce Rauner to disclose his full tax returns, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Democrat Sheila Simon stood in front of the Lincoln statue in Grant Park to say gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner should release his most recent income tax return in its entirety.
The multimillionaire Rauner says he has disclosed as much of his returns as he is required to and his campaign calls Simon’s news conference a distraction from the fact that the Quinn administration is the focus of a federal investigation into a failed anti-violence program. Simon bristled at that.
“This is not a distraction, this is not a trick. I have been committed to transparency for a long, long time and practicing it for a long, long time and significantly it is something that citizens of the state of Illinois have demanded for a long, long time,” said Simon.
Questions about Rauner arose amid reports he used fee waivers to lower this tax rate. Sheila Simon says it is not about that.
