Report: White Sox, Rodon Reach Deal

(CBS) The White Sox have signed left-hander Carlos Rodon, their first-round pick in this year's draft, and he's on his way to Chicago for a physical, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reported.

The deal includes a signing bonus north of $6.45 million, Heyman reported, which is more than the $5.72 million slot value for the No. 3 overall pick that Rodon was.

Rodon is a client of powerful agent Scott Boras, so it came as no surprise that the negotiations took more than a month. His $6.45 million bonus is believed to be the highest of any draft pick -- top pick Brady Aiken originally agreed to a $6.5 million deal, but an issue was found in his elbow during his physical, and the Astros have asked for a discount in that deal now, Heyman reported.

A junior out of N.C. State, Rodon went 6-7 with a 2.01 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 117 strikeouts in 98 2/3 innings.

Rodon is expected to report to Single-A Winston-Salem, WRAL TV in North Carolina reported. Because of his experience, a fast track to the major leagues -- perhaps being in the 2015 starting rotation -- is in play for Rodon.
