Son Killed, Father Wounded In Hermosa Shooting

(STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and his father was critically injured in a shooting Monday afternoon in the Northwest Side Hermosa neighborhood after an argument in a nearby restaurant.

The 49-year-old man and the teen boy were shot about 3:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of North Kenneth Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

Police responded to a call of a person shot and found the pair unresponsive inside a vehicle, Sweeney said. The teen had been shot in the head, while the man was shot in the back, he said.

Both were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Sweeney said.

The teen was declared dead at 5:37 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His identity was not released Monday.

According to police at the scene, the two were a father and son who had been at a nearby restaurant where they got into an argument with two other people.

They left to go back to their car, and the suspects followed them out and someone fired three shots at the car, police said. Both were shot and a bullet went through the driver's side door, police said.

The suspects ran westbound down an alley, police said.
