Naperville Police say the fire department responded to a single vehicle crash at 2 a.m. Saturday at Aurora Avenue and Eagle Ridge. A 2007 Chevy Impala, driven by 21-year-old Michael Szot of Geneva, left the road, hit several trees and ended up in the water.
He was able to swim to safety but two passengers who were still in the car when first responders arrived both died. They are identified as 21-year-old Mihirtej Boddupalli of Lisle and 21-year-old Sajaad Safiullah Syed of Naperville.
According to police, Szot was drunk and has been charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing the death another and two counts of reckless homicide. In a court appearance Sunday, Szot was ordered held on $250,000 bond.
