Gary To Name A School After Michael Jackson

GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- Officials in Gary, Ind., have approved plans to name a local school after hometown hero Michael Jackson.

The Gary Community School Board has approved an agreement with Jackson's mother, Katherine, to honor the late "King of Pop" and inspire children to excel in the arts and education.

Jackson spent his first 11 years in Gary, before the Jackson 5 became music superstars and moved to the West Coast.

Six years before his 2009 death, Jackson received an honorary diploma from Roosevelt High School in Gary.

School officials and the Jackson family have not yet decided which school to name in his honor.
