Man Arrested For Using Upskirt Camera On Woman Riding Red Line

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 36-year-old man has been arrested on misdemeanor charges, after a woman allegedly caught him trying to videotape up her skirt on a Red Line train on Tuesday.

WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports a 26-year-old woman said she boarded a Red Line train at the Belmont stop around 6:30 p.m., when a man who boarded with her started standing a little too close.

In a post on Reddit, the woman said she saw the man holding a black plastic bag, which was hanging below her skirt, and she noticed a camera lens.

She grabbed the bag as the train approached the Addison stop, and started yelling "Help, I've been upskirted," and asked other riders to call the conductor and police.

"I like grabbed it, I was like 'excuse me, is this an upskirt camera?' and …had it in my hand and he like grabbed it away," the woman told CBS 2's Chris Martinez. "As he was taking it back, I saw the lens again... and was like, no, you've been taking upskirt photos of me and like proceeded to yell...I was so angry there were no other thoughts in my head."

The woman and the man struggled with the bag as they walked onto the platform at Addison, and several people came to her aid, holding the man there as he tried to negotiate with them to let him go free.

Police arrived a short time later and arrested the man, and took possession of his camera.

Angel Ramirez-Diaz, of the 2400 block of South Drake Avenue, has been charged with a misdemeanor count of unauthorized videotaping through clothes. He was due to appear in court on Aug. 15, at the Branch 29 courthouse at 2452 W. Belmont Av.
