Man Fatally Struck By Car On Eisenhower Expressway

(STMW) -- A North Side man was fatally struck by a car Saturday evening after running onto the Eisenhower Expressway in the West Side East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Donnell Ewing, 29, was struck by a Honda Accord about 7:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Kedzie Avenue, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A witness at the scene told police Ewing ran into the roadway from the right shoulder, and crossed two lanes before he was struck, state police said.

Ewing, of the 900 block of West Winona Street, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

The woman driving the Honda stayed at the scene and no citations have been issued in connection with the crash, state police said.
