Dogs vs. Cats: Which States Love Them More
By John Dodge
CHICAGO (CBS) — Dog owners vs. Cat owners: In the United States, it reflects our national politics.
Evenly split and divided.
There are slightly more cat owners (74 million) and dog owners (70 million.)
In Illinois and Indiana, cats get a bit more love than dogs.
Illinois is a blue state and Indiana a red state–so perhaps the political allegory doesn’t quite work.
At any rate, all of this information comes from the U.S. Pet Ownership And Demographic Source Book.
States that love their dogs the most are generally southern states.
Arkansas, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana are the top dog-loving states, according to an analysis by the Washington Post.
Northern states tend to love cats the most.
Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Vermont and Connecticut are the top cat-loving states.
