Father, Son Killed In Separate Shootings Within A Week

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man shot and killed Thursday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood is the father of a 13-year-old boy fatally shot last week in East Garfield Park, authorities said.

Sam Walker, 34, was running from an armed male who was shooting at him in the 4100 block of West Crystal Street at 9:23 a.m., according to police and a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Walker was shot in the torso and head and pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said.

Police said the victim had gang affiliations and the shooting is possibly gang-related.

Walker is the father of 13-year-old Samuel Walker, who was fatally shot last Friday when someone opened fire on a group in the 700 block of South California Avenue, according to a police source.

Six other people, including two other teenage boys, were wounded in the 6 p.m. shooting near where a church group was holding a gathering for youth to pray and play games, the Sun-Times reported.

Walker, of the 3000 block of West Flournoy Street, was shot in the head and died at the scene, the medical examiner's office said.

Police later said they found a car nearby that they believed was used in the shooting. The vehicle appeared to be torched, they said.
