Sheriff's Officer Fires Gun In Foot Crash Following Chase On Eisenhower Expressway

(CBS) -- A car crash - then a foot chase occurred on the Eisenhower Expressway early Sunday morning just east of First Avenue.

Two cars were involved in the collision. State Police responded and Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari says sheriff's police did too.

"Our officers stopped to check for injuries of the people involved. At that time, a good Samaritan on scene alerted our officers that one of the subjects had a gun."

And Ansari says a chase began - on foot.

She says a sheriff's police officer fired his weapon during the chase.

She says the man who was trying to get away was not hit by the bullet - but she says he was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries from the car crash - and taken into custody.

State Police say the collision happened just after 1 a.m.

They say the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-290 - and then there was a fight at the scene before the foot chase which led Cook County Sheriff's Police officers through the westbound lanes.
