4 Dead, 22 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four people were killed and at least 25 others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 9 p.m. Sunday in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side neighborhood.

Jerome N. Harris, 17, was shot in the neck in the 1100 block of West 112th Place and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died about an hour later, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

According to court records, Harris, of the 11000 block of South State Street, was convicted in February of assaulting a police officer. He was sentenced to three years in prison for the assault and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, but was release on parole in March, records show.

Less than two hours earlier, a man was shot to death in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Brian Davis, 33, was shot in the back in the 4100 block of West Jackson Boulevard about 7:25 p.m. and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few minutes later, authorities said.

Early Sunday, one man was shot to death and another was wounded on the Near North Side, police said.

About 3:50 a.m., police found Martrell Ross, 32, in an alley in the 800 block of North Orleans Street, authorities said. He had a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was dead at the scene. Ross lived in the 300 block of South Mozart Street.

The weekend's first homicide occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Andrew Anania, 18, is accused of firing a 9-millimeter handgun at Ramon Breceda near 26th Street and California Avenue, authorities said.

Breceda, of the 2700 block of West 23rd Street, was shot in the chest, authorities said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Breceda fired back, striking two others — Ricardo Cortez, 15, and Eduardo Moreno, also 15, authorities said.

Anania, Cortez, and Moreno are charged with first-degree murder in connection with Breceda's death. All three were denied bond in court Sunday.

Prosecutors said the accused teens were "aspiring members" of the Latin Kings, and the shooting was part of their initiation into the gang. Breceda was a member of a rival gang, prosecutors said.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened early Monday in West Englewood.

A 22-year-old man was walking in the 7100 block of South Damen Avenue about 4:30 a.m. when a blue van pulled up and at least one gunman got out and opened fire, police said.

The man was struck in the left ankle and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stable. Police said the victim is a documented gang member.

Additionally, A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death Friday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Orlando Lomax was walking on the sidewalk in the 3900 block of West North about 11:30 p.m., when four males walked up and the group got in a fight, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

During the fight, Lomax was stabbed in the back, authorities said.
