(CBS) – For the first time in 31 years, a Chicago team is in the Little League World Series and the pressure is building, not only on the team, but also the relatives, reports WBBM’s John Cody.
Danita Butler is married to team coach Darold Butler and is mother of 12-year-old centerfielder D.J. Butler, whom she describes as more excited than nervous.
“He’s kind of been in different kind of situations where they come back or they face a different opponent and they were the underdogs and ended up winning so I think he is more excited,” Danita said. “This is every kid’s dream.”
The Jackie Robinson West team came from behind to win Little League Great Lake Regional on Saturday. Their first game in the Little League World Series comes Thursday at 2 p.m. against Lynwood, Washington.
The city announced that there will be a watch party for Thursday’s game, with the location and time not yet revealed.
