CHICAGO (CBS) — Which of the following City Of Chicago jobs pays more on average than a Chicago Police Officer?

A) Street Light Repair Worker

B) Refuse Collector

C) Alderman

D) Plumbing Inspector

E) All Of The Above

F) None Of The Above

Police Officers were chosen because, well, they perform a pretty important role in ensuring public safety and law enforcement.

Incidentally, most fire fighters, with salaries between $50,000-$75,000, make less then police officers. Many paramedics also make less, at around $65,000-$75,000.

Here is one hint: An alderman makes $115,000 a year, according to the city’s salary database, which is available online.

A blog called Mantas Code, created some bubble charts to help visualize the data.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy is the highest-paid city worker, collecting a salary of $260,004. He oversees a department that employs 13,572 people, who are paid a total of $1,044,037,234.

While the 50 aldermen are each paid $115,000, the City Council in total employs 395 people, with a salary budget of $22,455,871.
