CROWN POINT, Ind. (STMW) — A Chicago woman was killed and three other people were injured when a semi truck ran over a car in northwest Indiana Friday nightl, the Post-Tribune is reporting.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, Alesia M. Crawford, 30, of Chicago, was stopped at about 10:17 p.m. on the inside shoulder with the emergency flashers activated because of a flat tire in her a 2005 Hyundai. She was attempting to call for assistance when a 1994 Volvo semi driven by David Lee Westra, 26, from Pell Lake, Wis., was unable to stop and ran over the top of the Hyundai about a mile north of the Crown Point exit.
Jacqueline Brown, 53, of Chicago, who was riding in the front seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger sitting behind the driver, Ana A. C. Williams, 30, of Gary, Ind., was taken to Southlake Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, Ind., with a possible broken femur and a concussion. Crawford was taken to St Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with possible broken ribs.
The Hyundai was totaled and damage to the semi was estimated at $10,000, police said.
Westra was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital with complaint of pain and a toxicology test.
No citations were issued as of Saturday morning and the crash is still under investigation, police said.
