Police: Crash In Garfield Ridge Kills Bicyclist
(STMW) -- A car fatally struck a bicyclist riding in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the West Side early Sunday, according to police.
About 12:45 a.m., the 44-year-old man was riding his bicycle eastbound on 55th Street when a 2011 Chevrolet Impala turning onto Central Avenue struck him, police said.
The bicyclist was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Elizabeth Lara-Salas, 37, of the 6200 block of South Mayfield Avenue, was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said. No charges have been filed and the Major Accident Investigations Unit is investigating.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
