Kids Get Free Back-To-School Haircuts At Gresham Police Station

(CBS) -- For the third straight year, the Gresham Police District at 78th and Halsted is the place for free back-to-school haircuts - and some free advice on life.

First, barber Terrance Young asks the father how he wants his 4-year-old's hair cut. Young offers the boys of all ages some well thought-out words on living and staying alive.

With so many parents there - you'd think this kind of advice might be unnecessary.

"Not true. Because this is just a day for free haircuts. They're more than likely not coming up here by themselves, but it doesn't represent the issues that they still face at home, just because your parent is with you. What you see on the outside may not be the same on the inside."

Barber Terrance Young was one of 20 barbers volunteering their time and talent helping a young man make his best appearance.

More than 200 boys and young men were expected to take advantage of the free haircuts.
