Man Dies After Being Pulled From Lake Michigan On North Side

(STMW) -- A man died after he was pulled from Lake Michigan near Foster Beach on the North Side Sunday morning.

About 8:30 a.m., the 49-year-old was swimming about 25 feet from the shore near the 5200 block of Simonds Drive when he went under the water, police said.

Witnesses called 911 and he was unreponsive when he was pulled out by Chicago Fire Department crews, police said.

He was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

His name was withheld Sunday morning pending notification of family.
