White Sox Promote 7 To Big Leagues -- But Not Rodon

(CBS) The White Sox promoted seven players to the majors Tuesday as rosters expanded for September, but top prospect Carlos Rodon wasn't among them.

Those getting called up were pitchers Chris Bassitt, Eric Surkamp and Scott Carroll, outfielder Jordan Danks, catcher Josh Phegley, infielder Marcus Semien and outfield Michael Taylor. All came from Triple-A Charlotte.

A left-hander who could be in Chicago's rotation to start next season, Rodon has only pitched 24 2/3 professional innings, and White Sox general manager Rick Hahn has said he wants to be careful with the young talent. Rodon finished the season at Triple-A Charlotte after he signed with the White Sox in July following his selection as the third overall pick in June's amateur draft. The possibility remains that he could come to Chicago just to work on the side with pitching coach Don Cooper.

The White Sox already made one of their bigger moves in calling up first baseman Andy Wilkins, who made his debut Sunday after the trade of Adam Dunn to the Oakland A's.

Chicago's 40-man roster is now full, and the active roster stands at 32.
