5 Killed, 15 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

(STMW) -- Five men were killed and at least 15 other people have been injured in weekend shootings across the city.

Most recently, a restaurant security guard shot and killed a man who pulled a knife on him early Sunday in the Northwest Side Albany Park neighborhood.

The 47-year-old security guard told the intoxicated 36-year-old man to leave the restaurant in the 4500 block of North Kedzie a few minutes before 4 a.m., police said.

The man returned with a knife and attacked the security guard, who drew his weapon and fired shots, police said.

The 36-year-old was struck and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality but the man's identity was unknown Sunday morning.

A 19-year-old man died Saturday night after a shooting in West Englewood that left two others injured.

Shaquille Holmes, 19, a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were outside about 9 p.m. in the 7300 block of South Damen when someone got out of a car and opened fire, authorities said.

Holmes was shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m., authorities said.

The woman was shot in the leg and the other man in the right arm, police said. They were both taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions stabilized, police said.

Early Saturday, a man died ater being shot in West Town.

About 4:10 a.m., the 19-year-old got into a fight with someone who then shot him in the upper right chest in the 1300 block of West Chicago, police said.

The man's friends found him and drove him to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality but no other details were released Sunday morning.

About an hour, a 64-year-old man was shot to death in an early morning robbery in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Nabil Batroukh, 64, was leaving a store in the 1500 block of South Lawndale about 3 a.m. when he was approached by two males who tried to rob him, authorities said.

During the robbery, one of them shot the older man in the chest, police said.

Batroukh was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said. His home address wasn't immediately known.

About 5:10 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old man was found shot dead in the 6200 block of South Kilpatrick in the Clearing neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Giovanni Galindo, of the 10300 block of South Karlov in Oak Lawn, was dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

At least 13 other people have been hurt in shootings since 2 a.m. on Saturday.
