Woman In Critical Condition After Husband Sets Her On Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman is in critical condition after she was set on fire by her husband Sunday night in Uptown.

The man, 66, and woman, 60, got into a heated argument over money in a parking lot in the 4300 block of North Broadway at 9:05 p.m., according to a police report.

The man, who is in a wheelchair, "became irate" and threw rubbing alochol over the top of his wife's head down her body, then set her body on fire with a lighter, according to the report.

A witness rushed to help the woman by patting her down and helping her remove her clothing, according to the report.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. She suffered third-degree burns from the top of her head to her waist and burns on both the back and front of her body, according to the report.

During a search, officers found a small plastic bag containing a substance thought to be cannabis in her husband's prosthetic leg, according to the report, which lists his home address as the Pacific Garden Mission in the 1400 block of South Canal.

The 66-year-old man is in custody, though no charges have yet been filed, police said.
