Aldermen Want To Give Council Oversight To City Inspector General
(CBS) -- Chicago aldermen have taken a step towards getting rid of their own, controversial, inspector general and handing oversight over to the City Inspector General Joseph Ferguson, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Alderman Pat O'Connor, Mayor Emanuel's floor leader, says a majority of council members are signed on to a proposed ordinance giving the city inspector general authority to investigate them and their staffs.

O'Connor is himself a target of an ethics investigation by legislative IG Faisal Khan. He denies this is payback.
"The reality is this is a step that most people felt was an appropriate measure to take year's ago and whether or not the people want to question the motivation, the result will be a more comprehensive office," O'Connor said.
IG Ferguson would have powers Faisal Khan doesn't, such as launching his own investigations instead of waiting for a sworn complaint.
