Bears' Marshall, Jeffery Listed As Questionable

By Dan Durkin-

(CBS) On Thursday, Bears receiver Brandon Marshall said he was going to practice today as he recovers from an ankle injury, but he was only able to lightly jog through the team's walk-through periods. Despite Marshall insisting he'll play Sunday night in San Francisco if he has any say, he's listed as questionable.

"Everything is a player-by-player decision," Chicago coach Marc Trestman said. "That the No. 1 thing I want to be sure of, is that the player is healthy enough to play the game and can be safe out there. That's what is the most important thing as we work and what's best for the team."

Fellow wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) practiced in a limited manner Friday, and he's also listed as questionable.

"Alshon did get some work today," Trestman said.  "Moved around, did work in individual and got some work at practice as well, so we'll continue to monitor their progress as we work into the game."

Jeffery said he felt "pretty good out there," but he seemed uncertain if he would be available Sunday.

No. 3 receiver Josh Morgan suffered a setback this week at practice, feeling some tightness in his groin, and he's now listed as doubtful for Sunday.

This leaves the Bears with one healthy wide receiver on their active roster, Santonio Holmes, who is slated to return punts, and practice squad players like Josh Bellamy and Chris Williams.

Depending on how Marshall and Jeffery look Saturday in walk-throughs, the Bears may need to make roster moves this weekend.

"We've got up to 90 minutes before the game to make those kind of decisions," Trestman said. "So, we're going to use every minute of it to make sure we're going to make the right decision in the best interest of the team and certainly the player."

Compounding problems for the Bears is that with guard Matt Slauson and center Roberto Garza out with ankle injuries, the Bears have only seven healthy offensive linemen on the current roster. Their starting line Sunday will be (from left tackle to right tackle) Jermon Bushrod, Michael Ola, Brian de la Puente, Kyle Long and Jordan Mills, with Eben Britton and Charles Leno Jr. as their primary reserves.

When asked if Britton could play center in a pinch, Trestman had took a long pause before answering.

"He could do that if we needed to do that," Trestman said. "Still, we're in position now to make some roster moves to alleviate that problem, and we'll see where that goes as we move forward."

The Bears could sign Taylor Boggs off the practice squad if needed, but they would have to cut a player from the active roster to do so.

Suffice to say, the Bears roster will be a very fluid situation right up until game time.

As expected, fullback Tony Fiammetta (hamstring) and reserve quarterback David Fales (right shoulder) have also been ruled out for Sunday's game.
