Bears Waive Fales, Cut Hayden And Fiammetta

(CBS) With starting center Roberto Garza (right ankle) and left guard Matt Slauson (left ankle) out for Sunday's game versus the 49ers, and wide receivers Brandon Marshall (right ankle) and Alshon Jeffery (right hamstring) questionable to play, the Bears created three roster spots on Friday afternoon.

Rookie quarterback David Fales was waived, and fullback Tony Fiammetta and cornerback Kelvin Hayden were cut by the team, as reported by Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun Times.

After practice on Friday, head coach Marc Trestman mentioned the roster situation was a fluid situation as the team prepared to leave for San Jose.

"It will be ongoing as we move to the game," Trestman said. "The roster is really going to have to be fluid as we continue to determine where our players are."

Hayden was a part of the team's initial roster cuts, but was brought back when wide receiver Marquess Wilson was put on injured reserve with a designation to return. Fales injured his shoulder in the preseason finale against the Browns and had been out since. Fiammetta has been dealing with a hamstring injury since August 22nd. All three Bears were inactive for last week's game versus the Bills.

These move signal that players -- possibly wide receivers Josh Bellamy and Chris Williams or center Taylor Boggs -- could likely be signed off the practice squad prior to Sunday's game.

Trestman said the Bears would take as much time as possible to determine who is healthy enough to play Sunday night.

"We've got up to 90 minutes before the game to make those kind of decisions," Trestman said. "So, we're going to use every minute of it to make sure we're going to make the right decision in the best interest of the team and certainly the player."
