Man Charged In Sex Assault Of Ex-Girlfriend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Northwest Side man appears in court today, accused of attacking his former girlfriend and injuring a police officer.

WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports that 20-year-old Diego Rodriguez forced the 19-year-old woman into his car in an alley about a block from his home near Devon and Milwaukee Avenues on Sunday.

He's accused of choking and sexually assaulting her.

An off-duty UIC police officer saw it happening, announced her office and tried to pull the victim from the car.

As she did, police say Rodriguez drove off, dragging the officer a short distance before she was thrown from the moving car.

Rodriguez was arrested and is charged with several offenses including sexual assault, battery and unlawful restraint.

His former girlfriend and the police officer both are recovering from their injuries.
