Man Charged With Using Vehicle To Injure Chicago Cop

(CBS) -- A man has been charged with hitting a Chicago Police officer's car with his own vehicle and injuring an officer.

Denzel Ford, 20, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravate battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery/cause bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance/intent to deliver.

The incident happened at approximately 10:15 last Saturday in the 2300 block of West Lake Street. At the time law enforcement says they were investigating drug deals.

According to police, officers were attempting to arrest Ford when he refused instructions and accelerated toward the police vehicle, knocking an officer to the ground. Police say Ford accelerated his vehicle toward that officer. The officer fired his gun, striking Ford.

Ford was transported to a nearby hospital. The hurt officer was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
