Five New iPhone Features With iOS 8

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- As usual, Apple's latest iPhone--which goes on sale on Friday--is in big demand, but current iPhone customers can take advantage of some nice features in the company's latest mobile operating system, iOS 8.

The new operating system adds a more robust "smart text" interface that tries to predict your words before you type them. It also integrates the touch ID feature into other apps, like Amazon.

And while Apple is touting a whole to range of ways to use your health apps, some bugs have delayed that rollout.

Aside from that, here are five tricks you might want to try:

Respond Quickly To An Alert: Users can slide a text notification up to dismiss it, or slide it down and type in a response.

Name That Tune: Ask Siri "What Song Is This" and get the answer, plus a prompt to purchase the music.

Find Contacts Fast: Double click the home button and your favorite and recent contacts appear at the top of the screen. Click on one and iOS 8 gives you a choice to call, text or email that person.

Send An Audio Message Via Text: Press on the microphone to record your message and then swipe up to send it.

Set A Timer For A Selfie: Frame your shot and scurry back into the frame after setting the timer feature.
