1 Killed, 10 Wounded In Monday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least 10 other people were shot on the South and West sides in less than four and a half hours Monday.

About 8:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man was killed and two other people were wounded in a shooting in the Ashburn neighborhood.The three were standing outside in the 7800 block of South Homan when a maroon-colored sedan pulled up alongside them and a male got out and opened fire, police said.

Mondele O. Heard, 20, of the 7800 block of South Sawyer, was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

A 23-year-old woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to her back, police said. A 24-year-old man was shot in the right hip and left side of his torso and taken to Stroger Hospital.

Five minutes earlier, two men were shot in Austin.

The two, ages 18 and 22, were shot in the 300 block of South Lotus. The 18-year-old was shot in the abdomen and buttocks, and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. His condition had stabilized, police said.

The other man was shot in the arm and buttocks, police said. His condition had also stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.

At 7:37 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 2300 block of West 18th Street. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

About 15 minutes earlier, a man was shot while sitting in a vehicle near the intersection of 94th Street and St. Lawrence, police said. He took himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

At 7 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the face in the 1500 block of East 62nd Street, police said. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition. A police source said the teen is a documented gang member.

Fifteen minutes earlier, a 31-year-old man was shot in the foot in the 300 block of West 105th Street, police said. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

The afternoon's first shooting left two people wounded about 3:23 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Arthington, police said.

Two people walked up and started shooting at two men, ages 20 and 28, police said. The 28-year-old was shot in the thigh and paramedics took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

The other man was shot in the arm and thigh and suffered a graze wound to the chest, Sweeney said. He drove himself to Mount Sinai. Both are in good condition.

Area detectives are investigating.
