Emanuel Admits Mistake In Proposing Planned North Side School Be Named After Obama

(CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he was wrong to try to name a North side prep school for President Barack Obama.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports it is one of those rare occasions from Mayor Emanuel but he admits making a misstep when he suggested a planned $60 million school on the North Side should be named for President Obama, who many African-American officials and activists noted made his name on the South Side.

"In my rush to honor our favorite son, I made a mistake," Emanuel said. "I heard the community and it is not going to be named after the president and my goal is to have a library named after him here in the city of Chicago."

The mayor says he still wants to build a selective enrollment school and it will probably be on the North Side because that is where the tax increment financing money is, it would just have a different name.
