12 Wounded In City Shootings On Tuesday
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least 12 people were wounded in shootings Tuesday across the city.
Most recently, two men were wounded in a shooting in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.
The men, ages 22 and 24, were standing outside in the 1800 block of South Hamlin about 9:15 p.m., when someone shot them both in the buttocks, police said. They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where their conditions were stabilized.
About five minutes earlier, a man was shot in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.
The 21-year-old man was in a vehicle about 9:10 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Wabash when he was shot in the leg by someone in a nearby light-colored vehicle, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized.
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
The teen was shot in the ankle in a possible drive-by attack about 8:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 62nd Street, police said. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
About 7:45 p.m., a girl was shot in West Englewood on the South Side.
The 16-year-old was shot in the hip in the 7200 block of South Paulina, police said. She was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.
Twenty-five minutes earlier, a teenage boy was shot in Englewood on the South Side.
The boy, 15, was shot in the back and leg about 7:20 p.m. while he was in the 6500 block of South Stewart, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
About 6:45 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The boy suffered a graze wound to the right arm and a gunshot wound to the calf in the 4000 block of South California, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
A shooting 25 minutes earlier wounded another teen in the Brighton Park neighborhood.
The 17-year-old boy was shot in the right arm about 6:20 p.m. in the 2700 block of West 41st Street, police said. His condition was stabilized at Roseland Community Hospital.
Earlier in the afternoon, a man who was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side showed up at an Oak Park hospital.
The 26-year-old was shot in the leg in the 4900 block of West Division a few minutes after 1 p.m., police said. He took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition had stabilized.
About the same time, a man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
About 1 p.m., the 27-year-old was driving a vehicle in the 3400 block of West North Avenue when someone shot him in the leg, police said. He took himself to Norwegian American Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
A man was critically injured in a shooting less than an hour earlier in Roseland on the Far South Side.
The 22-year-old man was shot in the head about 12:12 p.m. while he was exiting a store in the 10700 block of South Wentworth, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center. Police said the shooting is possibly gang-related.
Tuesday morning, a 15-year-old boy was hurt in a drive-by shooting in Chatham.
The teen was in the 8300 block of South Ellis about 8 a.m. when someone in a dark-colored minivan fired shots, striking him in the hand, police said. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where he is listed in good condition. Police said the shooting may be gang-related.
Additionally, a Chicago Police captain was shot Tuesday evening in Englewood.
About 6 p.m., Capt. Ed Kulbida, the second in command in the Englewood District, suffered graze wounds to his head and back when shots were fired near 72nd and Lowe, according to a police source.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where a spokeswoman said his condition was stable. His injuries were not life-threatening, sources said.
A Chicago Police fugitive apprehension team, including U.S. Marshals, was in Englewood to try to arrest Daniel Brown, 42, a suspect wanted for attempted murder in Indianapolis, when the suspect opened fire from an apartment building, a source told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told reporters late Tuesday: "We have one offender in custody and there's apparently one who is DOA.
"At this point it's unsure who's who. We're going to let the detectives do their investigation and take it from there," he said.
McCarthy said he did not know how the man died.
Before the 6-hour standoff ended, McCarthy said outside Stroger Hospital that police believe that the shooter is the wanted man, but "it's not confirmed."
