Cops: Man Vandalized Police Memorial Horse Statue On Michigan Avenue
(STMW) -- A man was arrested for vandalizing a police memorial horse statue late Saturday night on Michigan Avenue in Streeterville.
A few minutes after 11 p.m., a man climbed onto one of the Chicago Police memorial horse statues in the 500 block of North Michigan Avenue, according to police.
Both of the wings on the horse, one on each side, were broken off the statue, according to a police report.
There are signs "clearly posted" in the area prohibiting trespassing and climbing, according to the report.
A witness called police to report the damage and a 25-year-old man was arrested. Darius Moss was charged with criminal damage to property.
Moss told police he just wanted to get on the horse to take a picture, according to the report. Officers also secured video surveillance of the incident.
The statue is one of 29 life-size fiberglass statues of Chicago Police horses honoring fallen officers and displayed on Michigan Avenue. The horses will be auctioned off following the exhibit to benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.
