Three Killed, 17 Wounded In Weekend Shootings In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three people were killed and at least 17 others wounded in shootings across the city starting early Friday night, police said.

A man was shot to death Sunday evening in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.

The 25-year-old man was sitting on a front porch about 6:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Melvina, when he heard shots and realized he'd been struck in the lower left side, police said.

He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Early Saturday, four people were shot — one fatally — in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The four were at a party in the 4400 block of West Madison about 1:10 a.m. when, during an argument, a man pulled out a gun and opened fire. A 22-year-old man — identified as Eddie Taylor, of the 1900 block of South Homan — was shot in the face and pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Two 20-year-old women were also wounded in the shooting and taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. One was shot several times and was listed in critical condition. The other was shot in the buttocks. Her condition stabilized, police said.

Another man, 18, was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had also stabilized, police said.

Late Friday, a man was killed and a teen boy was wounded in a shooting in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

About 10:50 p.m., 20-year-old Roddy Comer and a boy, 16, were standing near the corner of 88th and Carpenter when a male walked up and opened fire, police and the medical examiner's office said.

Comer, of the 7100 block of South Maplewood, was shot in the back and buttocks. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.

The teen was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, police said. His condition had stabilized.
