2 Investigators: Details On Suspected Serial Killer's Military Service Released

(CBS) -- CBS 2 has obtained some new details today from Darren Vann's official military personnel file, from 1991 until his departure 19 months later.

2 Investigator Pam Zekman reports the 11 "releasable" details, as the military puts it, show various cities where Vann served, some not yet revealed as law enforcement authorities try to piece together his history.

Private Darren Deon Vann's military occupational specialty: Hawk Missile System Operator. Vann's military career began in December 4th 1991.

Vann spent the first three months at the Marine Corp recruit depot in San Diego, followed by one month in Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendelton California.

From there, he served at Fort Bliss Texas at US Army Air Defense Artillery School. He then served at Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he was assigned to a Marine aviation weapons and tactics squadron.

The released information concludes that... "Mr. Vann's premature discharge and rank are indicative of the fact that the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps expectations and Standards."

In other words, they aren't saying what he did that resulted in that so called "premature discharge" and further details are not releasable at this time, the military said.
