FBI: Bank Robber Told Teller 'Have A Great F****** Day"
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A southwest suburban robber told a bank teller to "have a great f------ day" after he stole about $20,000 at gunpoint last week, according to federal court documents.
The robber, identified as 26-year-old Carl P. Wilson of Joliet, entered the First Midwest Bank branch at 11200 W. 143rd St. in Orland Park just after 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 armed with a semi-automatic handgun and wearing a black hood on his face, according to the FBI.
He jumped over the counter and loudly threatened an employee, demanding money, according to a federal criminal complaint.
As the employee walked to a cash dispenser, Wilson fired a shot at the employee, striking a desk where the person had just been sitting, according to the complaint.
A customer entered the bank during the robbery, and Wilson yelled at him and fired again, striking a wall. That man ran out of the bank, falling on the ground, but was able to quickly get back up and run to his vehicle.
After he had gotten about $20,000 in cash, the robber jumped back over the counter, told the teller to "Have a great f------ day" while waving his gun, and left, according to the FBI.
Neither the bank employee or the customer were hurt, authorities said.
Police searched the area with a K-9 units, but the suspect was not found.
But fingerprints and other evidence eventually led authorities to Wilson, who was arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday, according to the FBI.
According to the complaint, Wilson is a customer of First Midwest Bank, but there is no record of him ever visiting the branch in Orland Park.
Wilson appeared in federal court Thursday morning, and U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert ordered him held pending his next court appearance, which has not yet been scheduled.
