South Side Peace Summit Aims To Combat Chicago Violence
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A peace summit on the South Side Saturday aimed to stop the violence that's a persistent problem in Chicago.
WBBM's Nancy Harty reports about 150 people attended Rotary's Partners For Peace third annual summit. Co-chair Osei Andrews-Hutchinson says the service group is working right where it was founded over a century ago, in Chicago.
"When you hear organizations like ours talk about peace, people think Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and we do that as well," he said.

Poet K-Love founded Lyric Mentoring Organization, which teaches at-risk youth to focus their talents productively.
"You use your poetry, your rap, your art to serve the community because that is the most important, so it is more than just being nice on the microphone," she said.
Organizers hope the summit brought together groups having success in targeting violence that they say has resulted in seven people shot each day.
