Schaumburg Police Investigating Tainted Dog Treats Left In Yard

(CBS) -- Police in Schaumburg are looking for the person who apparently tried to poison a dog, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.

The owner spotted their dog eating treats that they had not left outside their home in Stevens Drive in Schaumburg. They retrieved several more from their backyard, took a close look and saw that all had been doctored.

The 11-year-old miniature schnauzer developed intestinal discomfort and required a trip to Arlington Heights Animal Hospital.

Police Sergeant John Nebl says it's sick.

"It is terrible, I've got a couple dogs of my own and I just can't imagine," Nebl said. "If you don't like a dog, that is one thing, but to intentionally harm a dog and maybe to a serious extent, I can't fathom that."
Police believe this is an isolated incident, but they are urging owners to watch what dogs eat.
