View: Cubs' Kris Bryant Has Ivy-Covered Shoes

(CBS) Star prospect Kris Bryant is finding creative ways to bide his time before joining the Cubs' big league roster for good.

Like, ordering custom shoes infused with an ivy design that honors the hallmark of Wrigley Field.

The shoes are a creation of Bryant's, courtesy of the Adidas Originals #miZXFLUX app, as he pointed out in his tweet. A Las Vegas native, Bryant led all levels of baseball with 43 homers in the minor leagues last season, splitting time between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa.

He'll go to spring training with the Cubs, but he likely won't come up until mid-May because of service-time considerations. If the Cubs wait a bit with Bryant, he can't become a free agent until 2021. If he makes the Opening Day roster, he'd only be under club control through 2020.

Bryant's agent, Scott Boras, certainly wants to see Bryant in the lineup on Opening Day, as he told reporters Wednesday at the general manager meetings in Arizona.
