Woman Dies After West Side Shooting

(CBS/STMW) -- A woman died after being shot Saturday night outside her Humboldt Park neighborhood home on the West Side.

The 33-year-old woman and a man were parking in front of their home in the 3700 block of West Potomac about 6:45 p.m. when the man got out of the vehicle to go inside and get the woman's child, according to a police report.

As he got out of the vehicle, a white Toyota Camry pulled up and a male got out of the backseat and began firing at the vehicle, according to the report.

The woman, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot in the head near her ear, according to the report. The man heard the shots and saw her slump forward.

The white car fled westbound on Potomac, according to the report.

The man got back into the Camry and began driving the woman to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, but crashed at Division and California, police said.

An ambulance arrived and took the woman to Stroger Hospital, who is listed in critical condition, police said. Police say the woman was pronounced dead on Sunday, although the medical examiner could not confirm the death. The man wasn't hurt in the crash.
