Man Gets 30 Years For Sexually Assaulting 12-Year-Old Girl

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A west suburban man who prosecutors say sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl for months until being caught by the girl's mother has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Judge Blanche Hill Fawell handed down the sentence Monday after 32-year-old Javier Rocha-Sosa of West Chicago pleaded guilty to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, according to the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Rocha-Sosa sexually assaulted the girl repeatedly at her home in the evenings while her mother, whom prosecutors called his friend, was at work, a statement from prosecutors said. The attacks lasted for about five months, starting in the summer of 2013.

"At the tender age of 12, this young victim was repeatedly subjected to sexual assaults by a man she and her mother considered a family friend," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement.

He was caught when the girl's mother "walked in on him sexually assaulting her daughter," the statement said. The woman called police and Rocha-Sosa ran out.

He returned the next day to talk to the victim and her mother, who called police again, prosecutors said. He was arrested at the home and has remained behind bars on a $500,000 bond.

Berlin praised the young victim. "Throughout the investigation ... the strength and courage she has displayed are nothing short of remarkable for such a young girl. She has been through a great deal and I sincerely hope that she will recover fully from the emotional and physical harm Mr. Rocha-Sosa inflicted upon her."

By law, Rocha-Sosa must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for parole, prosecutors said.
